Maker Faire Africa 2010

I was so stoked to  learn of the Maker Faire last week, an absolute dream for any artist who crafts from repurposed materials. They're were many user submitted portraits of the craftsman attending via Flickr, but I felt this one was most appropriate for the blog.

Although I've been sitting on this video for a while, I've kept returning to it lately as I gather outside inspiration for my own perspective on space and display. Although I've gained a wealth creatively from Roman & Williams' views,  I still manage to find inspiration for just about every aspect of my life in this video. 
Definitely worth fullscreen and headphones.

Free & Easy - Indigo Dyeing

While packing for New York, I stumbled upon an old pair of vintage white bucks in my closet that had been buried away after spilling red wine on them at a party, (it was a late night.) As a natural born hoarder, I couldn't stand to toss 'em out, so in the midsts of brainstorming some way to reuse them I remembered this clipping from Free & Easy I had seen on Mister Crew a while back.  

This morning I brought them into work and set them in a dye bath of Rit Denim Blue.  I've never dyed shoes before so I'm pretty interested to see how they turn out once they dry. I'll try to post some pics when they're done.

Engineered Garments FW10

 Sorry this is becoming somewhat of an RSS feed, but time has been against me as of late. Im sure you've probably seen this by now but this is one of my favorite images from EG's FW lookbook (I am so excited to see their more focused direction now that Suzuki has left Woolrich.)  

Im really digging the single pocket detail on the waxed cotton shorts, and I can't get over the mechanics inspired jacket. I've been dreaming of one ever since Billy Reid put out a women's waxed leather mechanics jacket last fall.

In Italy, Choosing Tradition Over Growth

 An interesting article in today’s NYTimes about Italy’s new Reguzzoni-Versace Law, which will require companies to go through a minimum number of manufacturing steps in order to use the “Made in Italy” label.
