Tommy Ton in conversation with Jens Grede for Industrie

"I'm actually more intrigued by menswear than I am by womenswear...There's something inspiring about this idea of a uniform that is evident in the way that men dress themselves: a suit, a pair of pants, a shirt. Menswear is not as disposable as womenswear, it's more investment dressing...The challenging aspect about documenting menswear is the detail. I find that men are more drawn to detail, whether it's the collar, the cuff or the trimmings. I'm learning how to capture it. I find men's detail shots more inspiring on a style level than the pictures I take of women, which are more about a complete look."

HIXSEPT ‘DÉRIVE / DRIFT’ Lookbook SS10

Hixsept is a label created by two French graffiti artists dedicated to "constantly trying to mix art, graphic design and clothing." I was quite impressed with how seamlessly their SS10 collection combines work wear influences with urban and graphic elements.

TANNERGOODS.COM

Since reading Hypebeast's feature on Tanner Goods back in March, this small Portland based leather company has been a continual inspiration for me in creative entrepreneurship. For me, Tanner Goods is a perfect example of success through building a solid brand backed by unmatched quality and linked with true heritage. I was so stoked when I learned that Tanner Goods now has its own website where you can buy direct. Personally, I am a big fan of their wallets, but my favorite feature on their site is their process slide show. Here are a few of my favorite images.

Portland General Store

Men's body care brand, Portland General Store, makes hygiene seem just as manly as taking shots, rolling your own cigarettes and climbing evergreens. In fact, you don't have to do any of these to smell like you just did... in the best way possible. From the ingredients down to the packaging, Portland General Store brings a truly cohesive brand inspired by a working mans natural inclination to "authentic, sturdy, simple and grounded" products.

"Summer Layering"

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't do much of anything on my trip to Boston and New York but hang with good people, drink till 4 am, sleep till 1pm, and eat breakfast at 2:30pm. After several impulsive purchases in Boston, I pretty much called it quits to shopping and decided to spend my money more wisely in New York (at the bar.) -Either way, it was a much needed vacation and I'm even more inspired to kick summers ass. But no worries, despite my unchecked list of "Shit to Do," preparation for a solo art show, figuring out how in the hell I'm going to move to New York in three months, and my absolute hatred for weather above 85 degrees, Layered Goods is back and will continue to grow along with me.

Thanks for reading.

The Kid Dynamite Jacket by Society

Society is a Boston based street wear brand that's been turning out some seriously chic urban styles. Upon seeing this windbreaker on the rack at Karmaloop, I was immediately drawn to the bold New England color scheme. The Kid Dynamite Jacket may sound goofy but the style is smart and totally American. I was so impressed with the smooth translation of a traditional letterman jacket into a light-weight,Spring/Summer piece, I couldn't help but to grab one for myslef! It was for sure my best ( and guiltiest) purchase of my trip. Im super excited as it completely transforms a t-shirt and jeans outfit into something way smarter, and i cant wait to try it out with a chambray shirt and kaki jeans.

Check it out on Karmaloop

GANT Rugger Fall 2010 Lookbook

There has been a whole lot of well deserved hype lately about Gant, especially with the recent opening of their pop-up shop in New York. Personally i wasn't too impressed with Gant as it seemed to be just another Americana influenced brand. It seems with the introduction of Gant Rugger's Fall Lookbook, I've found myself as excited as everyone else seems to be. Though the pieces alone are simply their own interpretations of classics, the styling is spot on. These are just a few of my favorites looks that are most relevant to my own style.

The National "Bloodbuzz Ohio"

The National - "Bloodbuzz Ohio" (official video) from The National on Vimeo.

Front man Matt Berninger pretty much defines smooth with his baratone vocals and gentlemanly swag. With High Violet already proving to be one of my favorite albums this year, The National's latest video for "Bloodbuzz Ohio" embodies classic men's style and is totally sartorial.

Dickies 1922 Collection

Russell Moccasins- Camp Moccasins

Even though I'm completely over topsiders, these are the only moccasins/boat shoes I've seen lately that I'd actually wear. Extremely smart.
Check em out.

-I'll be out of town the next few days having a much needed vacation in the northeast. I will definitely be documenting parts of my trip, so expect a flood of posts starting Tuesday when I'm back in Texas.

This is great.

So i found this picture and could'nt help but notice how the kid on the left is pretty much styled the way I've been dressing almost everyday -minus the chains and cap of course. ( If only i was that hood.) The Uniform: Kaki Levi 511's, My blue dead kenedys tshirt, vintage army shirt, Clae sneakers.

UP THERE from Jon on Vimeo.

Up There is a beautiful documentary on the lost art of painted advertisements.
If you have not noticed, there has been a trend of videos celebrating tradesmen on my blog. The dedication and pride in attention to detail of the worker who masters his craft has always been an inspiration to how I pursue my art. -In addition to great imagery, I'm pretty sure that's The Album Leaf lurking as the background music.

PRPS Fall/Winter 2010 Men’s Collection Lookbook

Ive blogged about my interest in denim smocks before and definitely plan on finding the right one this summer in anticipation for colder layering weather later this year. PRPS offers a simply detailed version of their own denim smock in their Fall/Winter lookbook which has a slimmer silhouette then I've seen before, but is none the less styled quite well. The entire collection continues this motif of subtle, rougher interest to classic looks, which is often the route i find my own style leaning. - ok. Why does this dude look like he's just been offended and trying to think of a clever comeback?
